Prologue
The popular organization that became the St. George Jeepers originated in 2001. At that time it did not have a name and did not need one as it consisted of only three or four adventuresome volunteers at the BLM headquarters in St. George.

Those volunteers decided that if they were going to be advising folks about where to go, what the trail and destination conditions were, they should experience those conditions themselves. Consequently, Tuesday was picked as a day they would not be volunteering at the BLM and would go out exploring and learning the landscape. They realized that they should have communication while on the trail, so CB channel 4 was chosen and remains the standard channel 20 plus years later.
In pre-pandemic days the BLM hosted what they called the Weekly Friday Brown Bag series of lectures at their headquarters on Riverside Drive. One of the group founders, Paul Furr, often presented tales of their adventures with slide shows at these Friday events. Through this publicity, the group began to grow.

From this modest beginning of less than a dozen participants, the group has expanded to a listing of about a thousand, mostly retired off-roaders. From that original three or four weekly participants, thirty plus Jeepers often join on these popular outings. Sometimes during the year two or three trails are run on Tuesdays. The group has gotten so big in recent years that independent spinoff groups go out on other days, usually Saturday, to help accommodate individuals who are still employed.

It was decided that the group would remain informal, organized by volunteer trail ride schedulers and leaders. Those generous folks are gratefully acknowledged in this document. Without those volunteers the sense of community, of belonging to a group of like-minded adventurers would not be possible.

Sadly, many of the original founders have passed away or are no longer able to participate in the weekly trail rides. It is the hope that through the presentation of this document that their contribution to the enjoyment of so many folks, past, present, and future will not be forgotten.

Appreciation is also extended to the many individuals who contributed their memories of their adventures over the years with the St. George Jeepers. If any of the early group founders and later trail leaders have not been acknowledged, my apologies.
